Lipstick On The Pig

Our primary goal with the Bastiat Free University site has been to make it work simply and well.

Pretty has to come second.

The BFU main (old) site is working better, but we still have a long way to go. We may always say that, there is always something that can be improved.

We are not yet ready to tackle making the whole of Bastiat Free University look good, but we have done some playing around looking for a theme. We have put some lipstick on the pig, with the idea of imagining a full face lift latter.

Our free university entry page is simple and reasonable.

Our main BFuniv introduction page is still too crowded - but at least has better color in its cheeks.

Our free university Theology School page is another small test of patterns and concept.

We will keep puttering for now. Let us know what you think - yes or no, delighted at action, or cringing from our palette selection.

Any ideas are also welcomed.

Best to ya,

.

New Server, New Docebo LMS 3.0, upgraded PHP

And what is cool, it all seems to work.

Our registration snafu that has frustrated your efforts appears to be solved.

It is up to you to find the holes in our confidence. Please let us know any problems you encounter. For instance it may not work well on a Commodore 64 displayed on your TV. The spelling errors will slowly disappear as we work through the translation from Italian.

Our goal of having a slicker and easier system by June 29 appears to have improved. June 29 will end the
BFU beta test, be our Bastiat Free University one year anniversary, and the two hundred fiftieth celebration of Claude Frédéric Bastiat's birthday.

Our Basic introductory pages to BFU have improved, we have added a simpler BFU introduction format for quick perusal, and now we have the new and cleaner BFU registration page to the already wonderful and now improved Docebo 3.0 - open source - Learning Management System.

One nice feature is to click the Course List Button on the registration first page and you get a synopsis of all the courses - before you register.

Our old pages, like the one on the Master's Courses , will still serve a purpose and will be redone over the next year. Unless another inspiration hits they will probably be reworked along the lines of another of our projects - the financial management resource's at
Speculation Rules.

For now the good news is everything at the
Bastiat Free University site seems to work. The race track is clear - you can now start your learning engines.

Let us know if we are celebrating too soon.

Thanks,

Server Switch Complete -- Almost

Of course it may take a day or two to effect all of our students.

We are still moving the data base, there may be a few mysql faults - we will get them.

If you have been stymied for the last few weeks by a registration system that seems to drop the ball - give it another try. Or maybe wait till tomorrow.

Please let us know if you are still experiencing any difficulties. We would love to have you get back to learning what you need or want to know as soon as possible.

Register at Bastiat Free University -- now.

Best,

Problems With Registration

We are working on it, we may have to change back servers to solve it.

I'll post here when the wrinkles are removed.

If you are familiar with the process use our RSS so as to get the news quickly.

Time for vacation

I should be back in two or three weeks.

BFU is ready to go. Just one more server and php switch ahead.

We may answer your letters a bit slower than normal.

I'll leave you with this:

I heard a fellow on the radio talking about the trivia he was sharing and how knowing it would make you the smartest person in the room.

I remembered something I have heard - and it may combine where you are with what Bastiat Free University offers:

If you are the smartest person in the room - find another room!

almost a year of this educational journal

On the fifteenth of May we will celebrate the first birthday of this college experience journal.

This will be entry number 115, so an entry has been posted about every three days, on average.

It has not come a long way.

It is still a bit ugly, and is only a fair communications device - but it did survive.

Bastiat Free University is coming up on its first anniversary June 29. This will mark the end of what has become a one year, mostly unplanned, beta test. Several server switches, funky software, and lots of errors by myself have delayed full implementation of its promise - but the learning system does work.

As we enter the second year we pause just a moment to reflect that we have entered a marathon with BFU, not a sprint.

Our goal, to provide cost effective - better than university quality - useful learning, has not diminished.

We are closer to that goal. We have come a long way from the initial concept.

However in terms of the journey of a thousand miles, we are still lacing up our track shoes.

Thanks for sharing the trip planning with us.

Please join us on the road trip.
